HISTORY OF
DESCENDANTS OF EARLY AMERICAN GOVERNORS 1607-1860
Founded: 26 Oct 2023 Organized: 28 Nov 2023
Descendants of Early American Governors 1607-1860 (DEAG) came about through a discussion on 26 October 2023 between Shirley Kloberdanz Arendt, Anne Caussin Henninger, Kimberly Ormsby Nagy, Suzanna Etheridge Rawlins, Cary Stone-Greenstein, MD, and Shari Kelley Worrell, that a lineage group was needed to honor our Governors, Acting Governors, Deputy Governors and Lt. Governors.
Within a week of that discussion, a new lineage group had emerged with most of the founding board in place: Shari Kelley Worrell (Governor General); Anne Caussin Henninger, (Deputy Governor General); Kimberly Ormsby Nagy, MD (Recording Secretary General); Douglass “Tim” Mabee (Corresponding Secretary General); Shirley Kloberdanz Arendt (Treasurer General); Cary Stone-Greenstein (Chaplain General); Suzanna Etheridge Rawlins (Registrar General); Melissa Harrison Fischer (Historian General); Michael Perry Schenk, (Director); Grace Bliss Smith, PhD, (Director). A Parliamentarian, Heather Ann Mabee, and Founding Chairmen were appointed: Nicki Peak Birch (Bylaws); Sue Young Gray (Financial Reviewer); Verne Allen Gray, (Insignia Chairman); Michael Perry Schenk (Logo); Shirley Kloberdanz Arendt, Kimberly Ormsby Nagy, Shari Kelley Worrell (Membership); Karen Janczy (Newsletter); Shirley Kloberdanz Arendt (Social Media); Nancy Anne Merwin (Yearbook); Ronald William Barnes (Webmaster).
Once the Founding Board was in place, a very active e-mail interaction ensued. One of the first decisions to be made was the timeline we should have to honor our ancestors. The decision was made to honor Governors, Acting Governors, Deputy Governors and Lt. Governors between 1607 (Jamestown) – 1860 (Antebellum Period).
The new Society established bylaws, standing rules, an application, instructions, brochure, certificates, an eligible ancestor list and other necessary forms.
Founding member Ron Barnes designed the Society’s website, www.earlygovernors.org. He also filed the paperwork for our becoming Incorporated. Ron is our Registered Agent.
The Society was officially organized on 28 November 2023. Invitations to Charter membership (1 Dec 2023-30 Jun 2024) were electronically distributed to prospective members on 1 December 2023. The first charter member, Karen Markey Janczy, was approved on 1 Dec 2023.
Shirley Kloberdanz Arendt, Treasurer General, set up a Facebook page on 21 Nov 2023. The URL is https://www.facebook.com/groups/1018787906116688. She also obtained an EIN and filed the 1023EZ for tax-exempt status. We were declared tax-exempt on 29 Nov 2023.
A Gavel and Sound Block was donated to the Society by Shirley Kloberdanz Arendt and Shari Kelley Worrell.
The Executive Committee approved the logo created by Michael Perry Schenk. The certificate was created by Shari Kelley Worrell.
